In a few weeks is Christmas day. It seems impossible to imagine, but in fifty-six days, many of us will come together with friends and family for a day filled with generosity and love. Many of us will experience the gift of giving and receiving, the gift of time together and the gift of sharing. And for many of us, we will experience, as Jesus often did, the gift of being able to share a meal with loved ones and friends. However, for some in our community, this is not the case and as Christmas approaches, there will be many who will be unable to put simple things such as food on the table, meaning they are unable to share a meal with their families and friends as they simply cannot afford it.
Christmas is a celebration, the time to come together and enjoy each other’s company. For the CLOJ team, it heralds the start of the time of the year when we look forward to the Parish of All Saints coming together to deliver a very special ministry. A ministry that not only brings people together from within the parish but a ministry which enables others to share and bless those around them with the simple gift of food. The ability to come together and deliver the gift of food had been given to us by God. God is a God of extravagant gifts and wants to amaze by his love. These simple boxes are packed and given with love and are a beautiful example of God’s work in action.
The cost of the boxes this year is, as in previous years, $70 each, and they contain all the goodies to make a yummy Christmas lunch.
Christmas Lunch on Jesus enables us to serve others in a very tangible way. The team will be looking for volunteers to come and make up boxes and set up tables, and then to come and pack boxes and or deliver them. We cannot guarantee if you are delivering you won’t be sent on a crazy drive through the Auckland traffic, but we can guarantee that your time and efforts will be truly appreciated by the box recipients.
If you would like to volunteer, please contact the office.
