Featuring Julie Park, Associate Principal Viola
Beethoven Duet with Two Obligato Eyeglasses
Dohnányi Serenade
Bowen Fantasia for Four Violas
In the duet the original performers both needed spectacles to see the music, hence the bizarre title. The viola player was Beethoven himself – one of many composers who adored the instrument. Julie Park introduces some delightful chamber works by the unfairly overlooked Ernst von Dohnányi and York Bowen, whose Romantic nature was out of place in the times they lived.
